We request only one response from each club so please ensure you consult with your club committee and respond accordingly.

The survey has 11 questions and should take no more than 15-20 minutes to complete. Individual responses to the survey will remain confidential.

Child Safeguarding Policy

Australian Sailing has formally adopted the framework of policies provided by Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) effective from 1 March 2022. These include a Child Safeguarding Policy. This means Clubs and Discover Sailing Centres delivering programs for children do not need to formulate their own policy. They need to implement the National Policy and the relevant state based child safeguarding legislative requirements.

In NSW the Office of the Children’s Guardian oversees child safeguarding.

Starting 1 February 2023, the Office of the Children’s Guardian will have new compliance powers. Part 9A of the Children’s Guardian Act 2019 will come into force, which will allow the Children's Guardian to take action to ensure organisations comply with the Child Safe Standards. Their efforts will remain focused on education and building capability. They want to work together with organisations to keep children safe.

You can use the OCG's free, interactive resource to assess how well your organisation is implementing the 10 Child Safe Standards.

Completing the self-assessment will provide you with a report that highlights areas of strength as well as opportunities for improvement unique to your organisation. The report will provide clear and achievable actions for your organisation to improve its child safe practices.

It will only take 30 minutes to complete and will help you comply with the legal requirements of the Child Safe Scheme.

To help clubs and organisations in the sport and recreation sector implement the Child Safe Standards, the Office of the Children’s Guardian in collaboration with the Office of Sport has created a series of child safe eLearning modules.

The OCG  and Australian Sailing will be providing more resources and assistance for clubs over the next year, to assist you to implement the new policy and legislation.
