About the Australian Sailing Awards

The Australian Sailing Awards are the peak awards for the sport of sailing in Australia, celebrating outstanding achievement, excellence and contribution across all aspects of sailing.

The awards recognise the sailors, clubs, coaches, instructors, officials, volunteers and sport professionals who make a difference to our sport, from performance on the water to growing participation and strengthening sailing communities.

How the Australian Sailing Awards work

The awards follow a connected State and National process.

Nominations

Members of the sailing community can nominate eligible individuals, clubs and organisations for recognition. Nominations are assessed against the criteria for each award category and in accordance with the Australian Sailing Awards Conditions of Entry. Nominations are collected for performances across the unified Performance Period (a 12-month period), and only one nomination needs to be submitted for consideration for both the State and National Awards.

State Awards

The first phase of the Awards process each year is the appropriate State Awards. Each State judging panel reviews the nominations against the set criteria for each category to select their State winner. State Award winners recognised for their achievements and contributions within their respective states.

National Awards

The selected State Award winners automatically progress as the only nominees for their corresponding category to the Australian Sailing National Awards. The Australian Sailing Board may also add up to one additional nominee per category per year in the Performance categories only (Male Sailor of the Year, Female Sailor of the Year, Para Sailor of the Year, Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Noakes Group Youth Female Sailor of the Year and Noakes Group Male Sailor of the Year) at its discretion. National nominees are then reviewed against the set criteria for their category by a separate independent Judging Panel to select the National winner.

This process recognises achievements at a state level while providing a pathway for outstanding contributions and performances to receive national recognition.
