The Development Officer is responsible for the coordination of Racing and Training. This includes managing and growing the Training Academy activities to improving retention into club sailing & membership. They will also be responsible for delivering some on & off water activities through programs, inductions, staff training and racing.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Development Officer – Sailing, is responsible for the following main tasks:

 

Participate in the review of all policies, practices and procedures related to Sailing, Racing and Training. 

Contribute to asset allocation for Squadron Vessels. 

Oversee volunteer rostering. 

Coordinate volunteer training and inductions. 

Assist with setting-up races in SailSys, finalising & publishing entries and writing race documentation. 

Oversee instructor rostering. Coordinate instructor training and inductions. 

Implement Training Academy suite of programs and calendar. 

Oversee course enrolments, payments, and participant communication. 

Recruit and manage Seasonal Instructors as required. 

 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

Qualifications: 

  • First Aid and CPR Certificates
  • Current boat licence and power boat operators certificate or ability to obtain
  • Current drivers licence
  • Formal Sporting or Coaching Qualifications
  • Australian Sailing Keelboat Instructor or ability to obtain

Experience: 

  • 5 years’ experience with respect to Sailing
  • Strong Administrative experience

Skills: 

  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Capable of managing staff and volunteers
  • The ability to manage and deliver a suite of programs across the year, including come and try sailing.
  • Flexible with our diverse organisational requirements
  • Ability to understand technical language in relation to sailing practices
  • Physical stamina and dexterity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Positive demeanour and approach to work.
  • Organised and able to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work across a 7-day roster.

 

PERFORMANCE GOALS: 

  • Keeping material and labour costs at an acceptable level 
  • Deal with members, potential members, sponsors, suppliers and other employees professionally at all times;
  • Timely sourcing of quotes, budgets and work plans
  • Build and Manage a strong sailing practices for best business outcome
  • Work positively and proactively within the Team
  • Deliver an effective annual program of Sailing Activities
