Meet the voices behind Shape of Wind at the 2026 SheSails International Conference

Published Fri 18 Sep 2026

The story behind Shape of Wind will take centre stage at the 2026 SheSails International Conference, with producer Micha Alon and featured sailor Greta Carroll joining the speaker line-up on Monday 19 October, 7pm (AEDT).

Together, Micha and Greta will share the story behind Shape of Wind, a new SheSails short film that follows a mother and daughter’s sailing journey and celebrates the people who have helped shape their experience along the way. They will also be joined by Olympic gold medallist and highly respected coach Belinda Stowell OAM, who played an advisory role in the development of the film.

Behind the film is South African director Micha Alon, whose work bridges narrative, documentary and branded storytelling. Based in Australia and working internationally, Micha’s work explores identity, culture and the connection between people and place.

For Greta, the story is deeply personal. Her own connection to sailing began at just seven years old, when she was taught to sail by her father on the Derbarl Yerrigan/Swan River in Western Australia.

She spent her childhood racing Mirror dinghies before progressing into 420s and match racing on keelboats out of Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club. After stepping away from sailing for several years while away for university and work, Greta eventually found her way back to life on the water.

Today, she is river racing with Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club and ocean racing out of Fremantle Sailing Club. Most recently, she experienced a completely different side of sailing, spending six weeks cruising to Broome and around the Kimberley for the first time.

At the conference, Greta will share more about her own sailing journey and her experience taking part in Shape of Wind, while Micha will take attendees behind the scenes of the film, sharing the inspiration behind the project and how its stories were brought to life.

More information about Shape of Wind, including how clubs and the wider sailing community can access and share the film, will be released soon.
