Sailors receive King’s Birthday Honours

Three members of the sailing community have been recognised with award in the Order of Australia for their services to the sport in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours list.

The Order of Australia recognises Australians who have demonstrated outstanding service or exceptional achievement.

“This is a significant recognition for the years of service to the Australian sailing community and Australian Sailing would like to congratulate and thank those individuals who were recognised with an award this year,” said Australian Sailing CEO, Ben Houston.

Those from the sailing community who received awards included:

The late Sir James Gilbert Hardy (AO) - For distinguished service to yachting, to the business sector, to charitable organisations, and to the community.
Mr Kenneth Barnes Gourlay OAM (Tamar Yacht Club) - For service to sailing. 
Mr Leonard Arthur Randell OAM (South of Perth Yacht Club) - For service to sailing, and to naval architecture. 
The late Mr Gavin Hamilton Patterson OAM (Hervey Bay Boat Club Yacht Squadron and Col Gardiner Yacht Squadron) - For service to the community of Hervey Bay.
