Glamour Week for Zhik Youth Sail Queensland 2025

Published Wed 01 Oct 2025

ZhikYouth Sail Queensland 2025 delivered a spectacular week of racing, learning and community connection at Keppel Bay Sailing Club in Yeppoon. Over six days, 230 sailors from clubs across Queensland took part in a three-day coaching clinic followed by three days of competition in the Queensland Youth Championships. From Optimists and Open Skiffs through to Lasers, 29ers, boards and kites, it didn’t matter what boat or board young sailors chose — the focus was on time on the water, building friendships, and celebrating a love of sailing.A selection event for the Youth Sailing World Championships, Kite sailors were competing to secure their place.

The first three days of the event focused on coaching, giving sailors and their coaches the chance to improve their skills. Performance Pathway Manager Mitch Kennedy led the 29-strong coaching team, to deliver exceptional coaching for participants and then running hands-on sessions, workshops, and supporting coaches in developing their Individual Development Plans (IDPs). These sessions equipped coaches with knowledge and insights to take back to their clubs, strengthening youth sailing across Queensland.

Just as important as the competition was the community spirit that flourished on shore. Families and class associations gathered to connect, share stories, and cheer on the next generation. While this was a championship, it was also a celebration of sportsmanship, friendship, and community — a chance for rivals on the water to be teammates off it. Keppel Bay Sailing Club once again provided a stunning setting, with its world-class facilities and warm hospitality.

The racing was fast, close and competitive, with sailors tested across a variety of conditions. Congratulations to all fleet champions and placegetters, whose efforts highlighted the depth of youth talent in Queensland:
