Wow what a summer of sailing!

Tassie has seen a continuous role of sailing regattas and we are still going! Congratulations must go to all Clubs and Classes who have held events over the last couple of months with so many stories to share and exciting results. Our volunteers are amazing and we continue to demand so much from them, however, it was pleasing to see how well they were acknowledged, supported and appreciated at the regattas I attended. We can’t do without them! With Offshore Racing, Dinghy and Keelboat regattas, Tassie has seen one of its busiest summers in a long time. To see our Clubs bubbling with energy and full to the brim, definitely displayed our state’s passion for sailing. Congratulations to all involved!

Prior to Christmas, the Regional Advisory Committee met at Campbell Town for our yearly face-to-face workshop. The main focus was a discussion about keelboats and how we can encourage more boats and entice more people to sail. Australian Sailing recently shared an article talking about how we need to “think outside the square” and embrace new ideas to try and build our big boat fleets. We hope to have more information about this at the Sailing Summit on May 31st at Kingston Beach Sailing Club, so please add this date to your calendar. Here is the link for more information from AS – Growing Big Boat Sailing

We are currently in the process of organising our 2026 courses and hope to have these confirmed by the end of February. We have already had two Clubs request courses and would encourage you to contact our Club Support Officer, Nick Neale, if you would like a course at your club. Contact details are at the end of this Update.

Enjoy reading the below items and looking forward to again working with you all in 2026.

Good News Story – SailLAB - Designed for Teachers!

Looking for a new way to engage students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)? Wondering how to connect classroom learning to real-world experiences? As schools return for Term 1, many teachers and school leaders are reviewing their programs and thinking about how to make STEM lessons both relevant and engaging.

At Australian Sailing, we’ve developed SailLAB as a curriculum-aligned STEM education program designed to support classroom teaching through real-world applications. Using sailing as a practical context, SailLAB helps students explore scientific and engineering concepts in a way that is hands-on, connected to life beyond the classroom, and grounded in Australia’s rich sailing history.

Designed For Teachers!

SailLAB is available to schools at no cost and can be delivered flexibly to suit different teaching contexts, including metropolitan, regional and remote settings. Schools across Australia — including more than 40 already registered for 2026 — are using SailLAB to engage thousands of students, with particular benefits for regional and remote schools seeking accessible STEM opportunities.

Teachers, STEM coordinators and school leaders interested in incorporating SailLAB into their 2026 programs are encouraged to explore the resources page and submit an Expression of Interest to access full teaching materials and program support.

CLUB ACTION: Share SailLAB information on your newsletter. Let’s get sailing into our schools!

Australian Sailing Resources

With so much sailing on, is your Club using SailPASS to help build your membership and ensure safety at all times?

SailPass is a means by which a non-member can go sailing at your Club – it’s a form of introductory or short term membership (for a day); a simple way to get more people having fun in boats at your club and breaks down lots of barriers to sailing.

Take a look at the SailPASS support/marketing toolkit. Every Club needs a SailPASS!

CLUB ACTION: Share with your Committee and set up on your website.

Keep in Touch!

Please ensure that your Club/Class contact details are kept up to date in revSPORT as this helps us keep in touch with you!  We also need you to use revSPORT to help us collect data for our sport. Are you using the AS templates for your courses and Discover Sailing Days? It is simple and easy to use and will help promote your event.

We are available to answer your queries by phone, face to face or via Teams online.
