The Australian Government is providing $35.3 million over two grant funding rounds to help local sports clubs take climate action. The Game On Program grants are to assist community sports clubs upgrade their facilities to be more climate resilient and energy efficient.

About the program

Game On: Teaming Up for Climate Action program will provide support for up to 500 community sports clubs. The grants will help them upgrade their facilities to be more climate resilient and energy efficient.

Support available

Clubs may be eligible to access funding for projects that:

  • upgrade facilities with energy efficient technologies like installing solar PV with battery storage
  • improve their shade and drainage systems
  • conducting an energy audit
  • upgrading LED lighting and improving HVAC systems
  • enhance their resilience to extreme weather events

By making these upgrades, clubs can reduce their operating costs and reinvest savings into equipment and programs for grassroots sports.

Who can apply:

Applicants may be an individual community sports club; or may be a lead organisation of a small or large consortium arrangement (see section 7.2 for more details).

  • The minimum grant amount is $25,000.00 GST exclusive.
  • The maximum grant amount is $100,000.00 GST exclusive.

Each individual community sports club can apply for grant funding for a minimum $25,000.00 to a maximum $100,000.00 of eligible expenditure. Each lead organisation of a consortium arrangement can apply for grant funding for a minimum $25,000.00 to a maximum $100,000.00 of eligible expenditure per consortium member.

No wage cost indices are linked to grant funding therefore no indexation will be passed through to grantees.

The grant amount will be up to 100% of eligible expenditure.

You are responsible for any remaining eligible expenditure and ineligible project costs.

Useful to Note: The program will work alongside other government programs. These include the Cheaper Home Batteries program and finance from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.
