Club in Focus: The Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club (MOFSC)

Situated in Western Australia on the edge of the Indian Ocean within the Mandurah Marina, the Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club Inc (MOFSC) boasts world class sailing waters, offshore fishing locations as well as easy access to the Indian Ocean, The Harvey Estuary, Peel inlet, Serpentine and Murray Rivers.

The Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club was established in 2000 following the merger of the Mandurah Yacht Club (established 1969) and the Mandurah Offshore Fishing club (established 1972).

MOFSC is uniquely positioned to offer boating and sailing opportunities in all sorts of waters. With the Indian Ocean on one side and the Peel-Harvey Estuary on the other they have the best of both worlds.

The waters of Comet Bay provide excellent sailing with reliable breezes and rolling swells. Heading further out you can access wonderful fishing grounds for all types on anglers or remain within the protected waters of the Peel-Harvey estuarine system. Add to this a community of committed members and volunteers the MOFSC is an ideal club to enjoy boating, with other boaters accessing WA’s premier boating environment. It doesn’t get any better.

Membership:
MOFSC prides itself on its magnificent facilities and friendly membership with 973 full boating members and 730 associate and social members. 

Classes supported and types of sailing: 
MOFSC’s water activities are extensive and inclusive, they have a large junior sailing section with a full-time professional coach, excellent access to fishing with a club boat available for members, well organised power boat events which include competitive time trials and social events. The MOFSC supports numerous dinghy classes including Optimists, Open BIC, Lasers, Pacers, RS Fevas, 29er’s and Tasers. Our keelboat fleets enjoy racing across Divisions 1, 2 and 3 with all coming together for regular twilight cruises on Mandurah’s beautiful waterways.

•    Club Opening Day 9th October 2021, 
•    20th Birthday Celebration August 2021, 
•    Mandurah Boat Show 12th/13th February 2022, 
•    Halls Head Race – Fremantle to Mandurah (Saturday, 7th March) & Point Robert Return Race (Sunday, 8th March) which introduces the Finistere Cup in honour of those lost to both MOFSC and Fremantle Sailing Club.

Programs on offer:
Fishability operates from MOFSC offering opportunities for all abilities fishing aboard their unique purpose built vessel, skippers’ ticket training and power boat operator courses for sailing support volunteers, competitive recreational fishing and sailing, tackers and school based sail training. There are plenty of opportunities within the club to Try Sailing/Try Crewing if you are interested, where MOFSC will find you a boat to take a test sail on and chat with the skipper about our competitive and social sailing programs.

The club’s biggest recent success stories include: 
•    Head chef Sanjeewa Samarakoon is in the finals for Clubs WA Chef of the Year for 2021. 
•    Junior sailors reaching Olympic trials – as part of the Yachting Australia team. 
•    Young representatives making the Australian Optimist team and travelling overseas. 
•    An MOFSC Laser sailor representing Australia in Canada. 
•    Past junior sailor Matt Wearn winning gold at Tokyo in the Lasers!

Last year MOFSC celebrated its 20 year anniversary, during its 20 years the club has been proud to host such events as the 2012 Fireball world title, Mandurah Easter Regatta from 2006 – 2017 along with many State and Australian championships for different classes. MOFSC’s accolades during this period include being awarded Race Officers of the Year – Yachting WA, Administrator of the Year- Yachting WA, Club of the Year 2008 & 2013 - Clubs WA.
