A Successful 46th Australian Minnow Championships in the Top End

Published Thu 24 Jul 2025

From 7-13 July the DSC hosted the Minnow Nationals. The Minnow is a junior class that has a strong history in the Territory. The event attracted sailors from WA, QLD & Victoria in addition to our local fleet of 14.

We were blessed with stunning weather, ideal sailing conditions, and the kind of competition that reminds us why we love our sport.

The event consisted of 14 races with sailors able to drop their worst two scores. Sailors were split into two fleets: Open & Novice. Many of the Novice Fleet only stepped into Minnows this season with others as a last-minute entry not wanting to miss out on the action.

The perseverance, resilience, and courage on the water were outstanding and we are proud of all our local sailors. Local sailor Leo Batenburg retained his crown as Australian Champion with a convincing win in the Open Fleet winning 13/14 races quite convincingly!

Running a National Championship takes a village, and we are incredibly fortunate to have the best village around. Thank you to the amazing individuals who dedicated their time, energy, and passion to making the event a success. And a huge thank you to our Sponsors for making the event such a success.
