2025 Zhik Youth Sail WA Regatta a huge success
Published Wed 08 Oct 2025
The 2025 Zhik Youth Sail WA event wrapped up in Perth after an incredible week of sailing, learning and community spirit - celebrating the next generation of Western Australian sailors.
Hosted by Nedlands Yacht Club, this year’s event brought together young sailors from across the state and beyond, with participants travelling from as far as Esperance, Christmas Island and even Darwin. Across four days of coaching and two days of championship racing, sailors showcased impressive skills, camaraderie and sportsmanship both on and off the water.
The 2025 Zhik Youth Sail WA Coaching Clinic saw 149 sailors, including 32 Green Fleet Sailors, take part in four days of high-quality coaching delivered by 23 coaches. The sessions offered a fantastic opportunity for sailors to refine their technique, build confidence and connect with others in the youth sailing community.
Two awards were presented to recognise exceptional contributions during the clinic:
-
The Peter Hoskins Trophy was awarded to Jack Brazier for outstanding learning, performance and good sportsmanship.
-
The Chris Kelly Coaches Award went to coach Lachlan Putt for his energy, enthusiasm and commitment.
A highlight of the week was the Q&A session with Olympians Nia Jerwood and Zoe Thomson, moderated by WAIS Coach Matt Jerwood. Sailors had the chance to ask questions and hear invaluable insights from two of Australia’s best, taking away motivation and inspiration for their own sailing journeys.
The 2025 Zhik Youth Sail WA Championships was held on 8-9 October, with 114 sailors competing across 12 fleets. Conditions varied across the two days with moderate south-westerlies on Wednesday giving way to lighter breezes on Thursday - providing great variety for all competitors.
