First ever Territory sailor selected for the Australian Sailing National Youth Squad

Published Tue 24 Feb 2026

At only 14 years old Fynn has become the first ever Territory sailor to be selected for the Australian Sailing National Youth Squad, marking a huge milestone in Fynn’s quest to represent Australia at Brisbane 2032 Olympics.

Selection into the National Youth Squad recognised Fynn's performance, commitment, and potential. Fynn started kiting aged 7 at Rapid Creek, and within a few years had mastered multiple disciplines (Kite Surfing, Wing Foiling and Kite Foiling) - despite having no coaches, clubs, or competitions here in the NT. To reach selection level Fynn has had to travel extensively over the past 3 years - both domestically and internationally - to train, compete and get ranked - most of which is funded by his parents - Steve and Anna Goat.

The Youth Squad will provide him with the incredible opportunity to train at the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) in Canberra; to attend technical training camps and to be supported by national coaches and support practitioners; to prepare Fynn for potential selection for the Australia team at the Youth World Championships.

Fynn is also the only NT athlete in the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) Australian Sailing Wing Foiling Performance Pathway.
