Good afternoon,
I am writing to invite you to attend our upcoming Child Safeguarding Leaders' Forum, which will be delivered by the Department of Cultural Industries, Tourism and Sport and Sports Integrity Australia.
It is imperative that at least one person in a leadership position at your Club (Commodore, Vice Commodore, General Manager, CEO) attends this Forum, with all relevant leaders encouraged to attend. Please note this is an online version, specifically for volunteer-run and regionally located Clubs.
The details are as follows:
Date: Monday 29 June 2026
Time: 18:00 to 19:00
Venue: ONLINE - link to join included in confirmation email.
Please confirm your attendance here.
This Forum has been designed especially for the sport of sailing, and will include important updates on incoming legislation, along with relevant examples and support. The basic agenda is as follows, with more detailed information to be shared with all registered attendees, closer to the date:
- Introduction to the teams at the Department of Cultural Industries, Tourism and Sport, Sports Integrity Australia and Australian Sailing.
- Information regarding the impending legislation regarding child safeguarding, relating to the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.
- Information regarding the types of child abuse
- Roles and responsibilities in reporting abuse, and how to report
- Case studies and scenarios, relevant to sailing
As mentioned, it is incredibly important and strongly expected that at least one member of your leadership team attends this Forum. Child safeguarding is an important component of safety within our sport, no different to on-water safety. With your Club’s support, we can ensure that sailing remains safe for parents and children alike, and strengthen our sport’s reputation and appeal.
