Club in Focus: Speers Point Amateur Sailing Club

With a history dating back to at least 1905, the Speers Point Amateur Sailing Club (SPASC) is located at the northern end of the renowned Lake Macquarie in New South Wales and is one of only three clubs from around Australia selected to host members of the Australian SailGP team – including local Olympian Nathan Outteridge – when they visit our shores this February.

When Jessica Watson set out to be the youngest person to sail solo, non-stop and unassisted around the world, she not only captured the hearts of Australians, but of sailors and non-sailors alike the world over. Netflix’s upcoming release ‘True Spirit’ is based on the real-life adventure of Jessica Watson, who at the age of 16, successfully completed the life-changing journey.
