The Bunbury and Return Ocean Race came about in 1948 when a few adventurous sailors from the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club decided to have a race from Fremantle to Bunbury. Thereafter it became an annual return race and is still to this day one of the favourite events on the Ocean Racing WA calendar. The 170 nautical mile course requires teams to settle into an offshore routine and consider their strategy for the expected weather conditions over the duration of the race.
Victoria’s most talented youth sailors will descend on the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria in April for the return of the Victorian Youth Championships and Coaching Clinic.
The Chelsea Classic brings to life the excitement of off the beach sailing from the Club’s formation in 1938, to the post war boom in sailing through the 1950’s to 1970’s with period boats including Vee Jays, Skates, Rainbows, timber Cherubs, Heavyweight Sharpies and timber Lightweight Sharpies both sailing and on display.
On Saturday 6th February with weather unpredictable due to a low off the coast and winds predicted to be around 15-20 knots Easterly, Perth Dinghy Sailing Club held Heats 3 & 4 of the State Championship in Matilda Bay.
All the OutThere Sailing programs with the exception of OutThere Sailing Combined have been added to our Sporting Schools products. Thanks to this addition Discover Sailing Centres can now engage with secondary school students too.
Australian Sailing created a new Learn to Sail course: Dinghy Start Sailing Intro. This new introductory course is designed to attract new to the sport participants and beginner sailors to experience what dinghy sailing is about in a fun and affordable way.
Australian Sailing produced two new online courses for Discover Sailing Centres and qualified instructors wanting to deliver the OutThere Sailing programs.
