How to Set Up a Discover Sailing Day in revSPORT

Discover Sailing Days are a great opportunity for clubs to introduce new participants to sailing and showcase the experiences, community, and pathways available through your club.

To support clubs in managing registrations and participant information, Discover Sailing Days can be set up in revSPORT using one of two options.

Each option provides a different approach to managing your event, so clubs should consider their preferred registration process, participant journey, and administrative requirements before deciding which setup best suits their needs.

The below guides outline both setup options and provides step-by-step instructions to help clubs configure their Discover Sailing Day in revSPORT.

Option 1: Course Template

How to
Go to  EVENTS
Click  ADD EVENT
Select Discover Sailing Day from the Link to course template drop down
This step is critical to linking your Discover Sailing Day to the Australian sailing website and Discover Sailing Day finder
Continue to create your Discover Sailing Day by filling in the required event details

  IMPORTANT: Check and link your PAYMENT CLASS

When you create a Course Linked event, we are asking any participant to create an Australian Sailing profile during the process. This helps clubs manage participant information, payments, and future engagement by providing a consistent pathway from first participation through to ongoing involvement. Setting up your Payment Class is an important first step in welcoming new sailors and building strong connections with your club community.

Every club can link a Payment Class to course-linked events, making it easier for new participants to join your club and begin their journey in the sport.

 A correctly configured Payment Class ensures that participants can create a profile, complete their registration, and be recognised as new participants within the system.


How to
Go to   EVENTS > SETTINGS
Locate BECOME A MEMBER OPTIONS
Ensure you have linked Course linked whole of sports events to your desired payment class

Considerations:This setting will apply to all Courses that your club runs, so consider how you label your payment class.

Here some Payment Class name suggestions that cover both Course Participant and Discover Sailing Day Participant entry points while remaining clear for club administrators:

  1. New Participant – Course & Discover Sailing
  2. Discover Sailing & Course Participant – First Experience
  3. Sailing Pathway – New Participant Entry
  4. Introduction to Sailing – Course & Discovery

 

Things to consider

   Your Discover Sailing Day will appear in the national Discover Sailing Day finder and be included in national promotion
   Each participant will need to create a member profile separately and register for your event
   No additional administration required after your event other than course completion

 

Option 2: SailPass

   Clubs can use SailPass to register Discover Sailing Day participants, which may seem like a simpler option for managing attendees.

However, using SailPass requires additional administration before and after the event, including linking your registration to the Discover Sailing Day finder and completing follow-up tasks. Clubs should consider these extra steps when deciding the best registration process for their Discover Sailing Day.

How to
Go to    FINANCE > PAYMENT CLASSES 
Select ADD PAYMENT CLASS
Select REGISTRATION FEE
Select SAILPASS MEMBERSHIP
Select FIXED DATE
Continue to create your Discover Sailing Day SailPass by filling in the required details

Once you have created your SailPass 

Update your club registration page to include information about your Discover Sailing Day SailPass

Select   REGISTRATION LINK
Copy the link in the browser to direct new members to this SailPass for registration

Things to consider

  Your club's Discover Sailng Day will not appear on the national Discover Sailing Day finder
  You will need to ensure that you are promoting your club's Discover Sailing Day using other methods such as
         - Local advertising
         - Social media
         - Local schools
         - Posters and flyers
  Australian Sailing requires all participants to be completed in a Discover Sailing Day event - this will require additional administration after your Discover Sailing Day

Level Up: Make your Discover Sailing Day reflect your club

The Discover Sailing Day template includes a standard event description to help promote your activity and provide participants with key information about what to expect on the day.

Clubs can customise this section by adding their own local information and details that will help participants feel prepared and welcomed before they arrive. Any content added by your club will appear above the Australian Sailing content, allowing you to personalise the experience while still retaining the key national messaging.

Make sure you include:

   How to find your club
   Who to look for when they arrive
   Remind them water confidence is a must
   Sailing is a hands-on activity, so comfortable clothing suitable for being outdoors and around water is recommended
