Expressions of Interest - Australian Yachting Championships

Australian Sailing (AS) is seeking Expressions of Interest from affiliated clubs to host the Australian Yachting Championships

Incorporating the event into a major IRC regatta a club is already running will be considered if there are no conflicting event sponsors.

Key Points

  • The Regatta is an AS owned event.

  • The Host Club will be the Regatta Organising Authority (OA), working on behalf of and with AS

  • The Regatta should be the only major event being conducted at the club at the time

  • The Championships can be incorporated with a major IRC regatta already in the Club's calendar

Australian Yachting Championships - Conditions of Conduct  

  1. The Australian Yachting Championships shall be conducted under the Racing Rules of Sailing, the Prescriptions and Special Regulations of Australian Sailing, and IRC Rating Rule. 

  1. The Low Point Scoring System in accordance with Appendix A of the RRS shall apply. 

  1. The winners will be determined using IRC as the scoring system. 

  1. The AYC Trophy shall be awarded to the first place yacht in all IRC racing divisions. 

  1. International competitors and/or crews are eligible to compete and are eligible for the Australian Champion title and prizes. 

  1. The Host shall deny the right of appeal by appointing a National or International Jury. 

  1. The Host shall use a Technical Committee to conduct equipment inspection and measurement prior to and during the event. 

  1. The event shall consist of six to eight races scheduled over three to five days. Three races are required to constitute a series. No more than three races may be scheduled per day. 

  1. The event format shall include a mix of short passage, long passage and around the buoys type courses, providing a mixture of windward, running and reaching angles. 

  1. Where sufficient entry numbers exist, each division should be started separately, except the long passage race. 

  1. If separate course areas are used, Race Officers in charge of course areas shall be National Race Officers. 

  1. Maximise communication from the Race Committee, Technical Committee and Jury with competitors. 

  1. The Jury, where appropriate, shall conduct open protest hearings. 

  1. The Race Committee and Jury should initiate their own protests based on their own observations of a boat receiving an advantage, there being risk of damage or injury, or reputational risk to the event by the possible breach of a rule. 

  1. Australian Sailing may provide a representative to attend any opening or presentation functions.
