Youth Sail events ready to make a splash this Spring!

Published Tue 15 Jun 2021

Preparation for Youth Sail events around the country are now in full swing with WA, QLD, NSW and TAS all set to host events this September – October.

All Youth Sail events will incorporate state Coaching Clinic and Youth Championships.

Each states most talented young sailors are expected to take part to brush up on skills and in an attempt to secure a spot on the podium. Its a great way to gain a taste of regatta experience and as a testing opportunity for new teams.

Below is an update on what is happening where:

Youth Sail WA - This year's event is hosted by Hillarys Yacht Club in the pristine waters of the Indian Ocean. The four day Westsail Coaching Clinic will be held from Saturday 25 September to Tuesday 28 September. Following Westsail, the WA Youth Championships will be held on Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 September.

Youth Sail QLD – Returning to Keppel Bay Sailing Club, the Coaching Clinic will be three days of learning new skills and meeting new friends; and the Regatta will be 3 days of putting all that you learned into practice on the race course! Youth Sail QLD 2021 is also proud to include the Queensland Sabot, Optimist and O’pen Skiff State Championships.

Youth Sail NSW – After cancellation in 2020 Point Wolstoncroft is excited to welcome back sailors in 2021 with the event set to unfold once again on the beautiful waters of Lake Macquarie. This years event will be the first time a Coaching Clinic will be held leading into the NSW Youths Championships providing a great opportunity to brush up on skills with some of Australia’s best coaches. In 2019 the event has attracted in excess of 250 competitors across nine classes so stay tuned to see what the 2021 event will bring.

Youth Sail TAS - Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania will once again host the 4 day event with the Coaching Clinic and Championships combined. Last year saw a record number of 45 boats registered for the Coaching Clinic and Tasmanian Youth Championships across seven (7) fleets and 2021 is set to be bigger and better.

State Youth Championships are open for all youth sailors (up to U23) to attend.  For more information on all the Youth Sail click here.
