What’s On this October – Discover Sailing

With Discover Sailing Month just around the corner, clubs across Australia are already giving people the chance to get on the water and experience sailing this October.
From free come-and-try days to dinghy and keelboat experiences, there are plenty of ways to discover the sport and connect with your local sailing community ahead of a busy November.
Here’s what’s coming up this October:
Saturday 3 October | Discover Sailing Day
Colac Yacht Club, VIC
Come along to Colac Yacht Club and discover sailing for the first time. The Discover Sailing Day format is designed for newcomers to experience sailing, meet their local club and find out about courses and activities available to help them continue.
Saturday 3 & Saturday 24 October | Try Sailing Days
Perth Dinghy Sailing Club, WA
Perth Dinghy Sailing Club is hosting two free Try Sailing Days during October. Kids and teens can take to the water in the club’s Mudlarks and Jay-Dees, with the later session also open to adults. No previous sailing experience is required and lifejackets are provided.

Saturday 3 & Saturday 10 October | Try Sailing
Brisbane Sailing Squadron, QLD
Brisbane Sailing Squadron is offering two free introductory sessions for children aged 7–16. Participants will sail aboard a Quest dinghy with an experienced instructor, providing a first taste of sailing before progressing into the club’s Learn to Sail programs.
Saturday 3 October | Discover Sailing Day
Geographe Bay Yacht Club, WA
Adults and children aged six and over are invited to step aboard and experience sailing at this free community event. Participants will head out on the water with experienced sailors, try sailing a dinghy, explore the club and learn about pathways including Learn to Sail courses, junior programs and crewing opportunities.
Sunday 4 October onwards | Discover Sailing Day
Adelaide Sailing Club, SA
Adelaide Sailing Club is inviting expressions of interest for two-hour Discover Sailing experiences throughout October. Participants will be introduced to the club and sailing basics before learning about the boat, launching from shore and getting out on the water, with all sailing and safety equipment provided. No previous sailing experience is required.
Sunday 4 October | Discover Sailing Come and Try Day
Portland Yacht Club, VIC
Portland Yacht Club is opening its doors for a come-and-try day, inviting newcomers to head down to the foreshore and discover what sailing and the club community are all about.
Thursday 8, Saturday 10 & Thursday 15 October | Discover Sailing
Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia, SA
There are several opportunities to discover keelboat sailing at the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia this October. Choose from twilight experiences on 8 and 15 October, or a Saturday session on 10 October. Each three-hour introductory experience is suitable for complete newcomers, with no previous sailing experience required.
Friday 9 October | Discover Sailing
Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, NSW
Alfred’s Community Sailing welcomes veterans, frontline workers, first responders and community groups to experience sailing, connection and its social and wellbeing benefits. Sessions run every Friday, with relaxed sailing aboard Elliott 7 keelboats and member yachts, followed by a social lunch at the Club.
Saturday 17 October | Sydney HMAS Kuttabul Family Open Day – Discover Sailing
HMAS Kuttabul, NSW
Saltwater Veterans Sailing Project will bring sailing into the HMAS Kuttabul Family Open Day with a hands-on experience showcasing its work with veterans and families. Planned activities include short sailing experiences, marine activities and opportunities to meet the team and learn more about its programs.
Saturday 17 October | Sail Our Way
Midway Point Yacht Club, TAS
Midway Point Yacht Club is hosting a Sail Our Way event designed to introduce women and girls to sailing in a welcoming and supportive environment.
The day provides an opportunity for participants to experience sailing and discover what the club has to offer.
Saturday 17 October | Discover Sailing Experience
Largs Bay Sailing Club, SA | 9.00am–12.00pm
Enjoy a free three-hour sailing experience with a qualified Australian Sailing instructor. The session focuses on practical, hands-on sailing in a safe and social environment and is open to people of different ages and abilities, including families and groups of friends.
Saturday 17 October – Sunday 18 October | Discover Blokart Land Sailing
North East Windsport Club, VIC | 9.00am–4.00pm
Come and discover the exciting sport of Blokart land sailing. No previous experience is required, making this a great opportunity to get involved and try something new.
Sunday 18 October | Discover Sailing
Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club, SA | 11.30am–1.30pm
This introductory keelboat sailing experience is designed for people keen to try the sport for the first time without committing to a full training course. No previous experience is required.
Wednesday 21 | Discover Sailing Experience
Gosford Sailing Club, NSW
Gosford Sailing Club is offering two introductory sailing experiences this October, giving newcomers the opportunity to experience keelboat sailing and learn more about pathways to continue in the sport.

Saturday 24 October | Discover Sailing 2026
Cairn Curran Sailing Club, VIC | 10.00am–12.00pm
Come and try sailing for free with one of Cairn Curran Sailing Club’s experienced sailors. Participants can help trim the sails, take the helm or simply enjoy the ride, with all required safety equipment supplied.

October is just the beginning, with even more opportunities to get involved when Discover Sailing Month officially gets underway in November.
