The Secret’s out

Published Fri 21 Dec 2018

With numbers continuing to grow for the 2019 Saint Moritz by Gurner Australian Yachting Championships, there is one entrant amongst them who will be looking to add another successful chapter to its already storied racing career.

Secret Men’s Business is a TP52 based out of Adelaide with a track record of success, and is returning to this year’s Championships to avenge it’s second place finish at last year’s event.

Designed in 2009 by Judel/Vrolijk, it was launched as “Matador” at the 2009 TP52 world titles which it duly won. It went on to be campaigned by the King of Spain with great success in 2011 under the name “Bribon” before finding its way to Australian waters where it added to its list of accomplishments taking out a number of major regattas.

Four years ago it was purchased by current skipper Geoff Boettcher who has raced it at every Australian Yachting Championships since, and is one looking forward to taking it to the waters of Port Phillip for the 2019 edition next month.

“We are looking forward to some exceptional racing against the other 52 foot yachts in our division” Boettcher was quoted as saying. “Melbourne is an ideal venue for yacht racing & by piggy backing onto the Geelong Festival of Sails, crews will have an outstanding week of racing.”

All eyes will be on Secret Men’s Business at the regatta, as they look to topple last year’s winner Ichi Ban and Marcus Blackmore's Hamilton Island Race Week winner Hooligan when racing starts on January 22.

The 2019 Saint Moritz by Gurner Australian Yachting Championships will be hosted by the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron from 21-24 January 2019, and entries are still being accepted via the event website.

Racing will be conducted for IRC, ORCi and PHS divisions, plus Port Phillip AMS Regatta.

With after race entertainment and celebrations, put this regatta in your diary as a must do event.
