Rory Meehan wins 2025 iQFOiL Junior World Championship

Published Mon 11 Aug 2025

Australia’s Rory Meehan (AUS 3) has won U19 Men 2025 iQFOiL Youth & Junior World Championship after a hard-fought Grand Final series. Qualify 2nd for the Final Series, Rory went straight into the Grand Final but needed to beat the #1 qualifier twice to take victory. Rory won a close first race to keep the series alive but a loss in the 2nd race meant he and #1 qualify could take the title with a win in the 3rd race of the series. He found the consistency he had shown all week to seal the World Championship title by winning the 3rd race.

“That was very hard. The guys made it super difficult for me. I got the first race in, then Artun got the second, but I just managed to get the third. I'm very happy. Super tricky conditions, and I'm just stoked. Thank you, everyone. Thank you, my club, Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron. Thank you to my coach, Mitch Pearson. And most importantly, thank you to my parents”, shared Rory Meehan (AUS 3).

Jack Brazier (AUS605) also raced in the U19 Youth fleet, finishing in 59th. After a week in very light conditions, more wind on the final qualifying day saw Jack win his heat and get into Gold Fleet.

Racing her first large international regatta in the U15 Girls Fleet, Sophie Brazier (AUS606), finished in 9th. Sophie was one of 101 girls who race at the World Championships in Brest.
