  1. Regional Managers visit

I will be visiting Darwin from the Tuesday 3rd September till the afternoon of Friday 6th September. I have already contacted the two Darwin based clubs and hoping to schedule some time to catch up in the coming weeks. If you have any questions or topics you would like to discuss, I am happy to meet. Please contact me via email on ben.callard@sailing.org.au or feel free to contact Claire Hall to discuss any topics and arrange a time to meet on Claire.hall@sailing.org.au or 0467 307 234.

Action item for clubs: Consider making time to catch up. I am happy to meet with your clubs’ committees or key members. Let me know a time that suits you.

  1. Grass Roots & Quick Response Grants

The Grass Roots Development Grant and Quick Response Grant have received an update and applications are now open for the 2019/2020 financial year.

The Grass Roots Development Grant program supports participation initiatives, volunteer development, purchasing of equipment, planning and promotional activities with up to $5,000 funding available.

The Quick Response Grant program provides funding of up to $10,000 for emergency situations to replace equipment destroyed due to things like fire, flood, storm and theft, or for activities that have arisen that could not have been planned for. The Quick Response program also provides funding to individuals selected to represent Australia.

Action item for clubs: Consider applying for these grants to provide training and upskilling for your club volunteers or members.

  1. SportAus Club Health Check

Have you heard about the SportAus Club Health Check? If you want to strengthen your grant application, visit the SportAus Club Health Check.

The SportAus Club Health Check online tool is the recommended tool for club growth, viability and sustainability for our Northern Territory Sport and Active Recreation clubs. Developed by Sport Australia, the Club Health Check tool assists clubs and organisations to look at a number of factors key to success and provides a report showing the overall picture of how your club operates.

You can access the online assessment tool at the SportAus Club Health Check website. For further assistance contact Regional and Club Development, Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture on 1800 045 678

Action item for clubs: This is a great way to review how your club is tracking on key measurable criteria and will identify key areas for improvements across organisational governance and management procedures and policies.

Context:

As a new initiative to keep our sailing club community informed, I will aim to communicate through the Monthly Club Newsletter my top 5 topics for clubs to be aware of – LIVE TOP 5. I encourage club committees to table these at your club committee and/or sailing committee meetings and ensure your club is 1) aware of these topics, 2) taking advantage of or contributing from the information by taking steps within your club to continually improve your club activities and environment.  If at any stage you would like more information or would like me to make comment on a topic please email me at ben.callard@sailing.org.au or call our office on (07)3393 6788.

For local inquiries and on the ground support contact the NT Club Services Officer Claire Hall on Claire.hall@sailing.org.au or 0467 307 234.
