About the Role
Reporting to the Sailing Manager, the Head Coach leads the delivery of MYC’s coaching programs across multiple fleets - especially Off-the-Beach (Optis, ILCA/Laser, Pacers), with growing involvement in keelboat learning pathways.
You will:
- Coach and support our sailors on the water and at regattas
- Mentor and develop instructors and coaches
- Provide leadership in safety, planning, professionalism and progression
This role requires regular weekend work and seasonal flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
OTB Program Leadership & Regatta Support
- Oversee the delivery of all junior and youth OTB training and racing programs
- Create session plans and seasonal development pathways
- Support race management and coaching at regattas, camps and club racing
- Track progression and celebrate performance and participation milestones
Coach Workforce Development
- Lead, mentor and upskill MYC instructors and coaches
- Run regular PD sessions (technical, safety, rescue drills, coaching observation)
- Build a positive culture where coaches feel supported and accountable
- Contribute to recruitment and onboarding of new instructors
Keelboat Training Growth (Support Area)
- Assist with women’s, youth and school keelboat pathways
- Develop competence in keelboat coaching if not already experienced
- Promote continued participation beyond youth OTB programs
Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain strong communication with sailors, families, volunteers and staff
- Represent MYC values professionally on and off the water
- Collaborate with committees, Australian Sailing and partner clubs
Administration & Compliance
- Ensure safety, accreditation and Working With Children compliance
- Assist with maintaining training equipment and coaching assets
- Contribute to program promotion and reporting

Qualifications
Already have or willing to obtain
- Australian Sailing qualification (Instructor minimum; coaching accreditation preferred)
- Victorian Marine Licence + Safety Boat and Powerboat Handling + Radio
- Working With Children Check
- Current First Aid Level 2
Desired
- Keelboat coaching experience (or commitment to gaining qualification)
- Experience coaching multiple classes and age groups
- Victorian Driver Licence
