It’s been a busy start to 2026 for Australian Sailing! Below is a snapshot of what we have delivered in the first half of this year across the NT.
Instructor Mentor Workshop
Delivered by Amy Hetherington under the NT Volunteer Grant to develop the mentoring skills and teamwork of Assistant Instructors within the DSC Instructor Development Program.
Surf & Sail
Come & Try sailing for juniors delivered in conjunction with Surf Life Saving NT at Lake Alexander. Approx 8 registrations into Tackers as a result and 70 kids on the water for the afternoon.
Training in Focus - Instructor Conference
Run every two years, offering updates on teaching methods and Australian Sailing programs. This was delivered by Chris Goldacre from WA.
Assistant Instructor Course
Run at Lake Alexander for DSC participants entering the Instructor Development Program. Delivered by Chris Goldacre from WA.
Dinghy Instructor Course
Run in Gove on Hobie Getaways for GBC participants to enable GBC to expand their sailing programs. Delivered by Chris Goldacre from WA.
Gove Boat Club visit
Three days in Gove assisting the GBC with various tasks such as RevSPORT, Game Plan, Sail Pass, Social Sailing and SailLAB visits to local schools.
Development Squad - Minnows
Record numbers in 2026! Coaching is running throughout Term 2 & Term 3 with 2 x coaches and 2 x RHIBs.
Development Squad – ILCA
Record numbers in 2026! Coaching running throughout Term 2 & Term 3 with 2 x coaches and 2 x RHIBs.
18+ ILCA Development
Developed based on requests from senior ILCA sailors. Run alongside the Wed night Twilights with the opportunity to develop race craft and ILCA specific skills.
Physical Literacy Summit
Delivered a presentation about Flexible Programs and SailLAB. Sports, government and schools were in attendance with approx. 200 people for the day. A few more schools signed up for SailLAB as a result.
SailLAB Experience Day trials
Trailed the DF65 in Darwin Languages Centre pool. The successful trails have led to Ludmilla Primary School booking 54 kids into 2 x SailLAB Experience Days with DSC.
Coach Development Workshop
Development for local coaches focussing on specific challenges and how to best address them whilst delivering a quality product. Delivered by Grant Willmott from QLD.
ILCA Coaching Day
A bye product of coach development but also a great opportunity for our sailors to learn from a different coach. Delivered by Grant Willmott from QLD.
Minnow Coaching Day
A bye product of coach development but also a great opportunity for our sailors to learn from a different coach. Delivered by Grant Willmott from QLD.
Race Officer Course
A face-to-face club specific course for Race Officers or those keen to accredit and learn more about Race Officer skills from an experienced RO from interstate. Delivered by Malcolm Hughes from SA.
Race Officer Mentoring
One on one mentoring for Stuart Atwell as the RO for the DSC Sprint Series amongst other events. Delivered by Malcolm Hughes from SA.
Race Volunteer Workshop
A face-to-face workshop for Race Day Volunteers focussing on skills gaps as identified by regular volunteers. Delivered by Malcolm Hughes from SA.
STEM Communication Grant
Successful application for a STEM grant through CDU. The grant will assist to adapt the current SailLAB program for remote NT schools, 2 x DF65 to expand the fleet at GBC to 4 boats & subsidy of SailLAB Experience Days at GBC for the 4 x local schools undertaking the program in Term 3.
