Fraser Coast Welcomes New Discover Sailing Centre: A Fresh Chapter for Junior Sailing
Published Tue 10 Jun 2025
The Fraser Coast is now home to an exciting new Australian Sailing accredited Discover Sailing Centre — the Fraser Coast Sailing Academy — opening the door to a new era of junior sailing in the Wide Bay Burnett region.
Launching with the nationally recognised Tackers Program, the Academy invites children aged 7–12 to discover the joy of sailing in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. With a fleet of Australian Sailing’s Tackers Loan Boats, the Fraser Coast Sailing Academy is ready to help a new generation of confident, capable young sailors set sail.
This milestone has been made possible through a strong spirit of community collaboration and the support of two key local clubs, Hervey Bay Sailing Club and Maryborough Sailing Club who have laid the groundwork for the Academy’s success. Initial junior programs will launch from the Maryborough Sailing Club venue, chosen for its welcoming facilities and central location. As interest grows, particularly in adult programs, the Academy will expand its operations to include an additional venue at Hervey Bay Sailing Club.
Special thanks go to Port Curtis Sailing Club, whose members generously coordinated the transport of the Tackers fleet to Hervey Bay, a gesture inspired by their own recent success delivering the Tackers program and building strong local engagement.
Led by a team of accredited instructors, the Fraser Coast Sailing Academy is dedicated to delivering high-quality sailing education that goes beyond the basics — teaching teamwork, resilience, and a lifelong love of the water.
With the launch of this new Discover Sailing Centre, the Fraser Coast is poised to become a vibrant hub for youth sailing, with sails on the horizon and bright futures underway.
