FAQs: Changes to Transaction Fees within revSPORT

Published Tue 11 Aug 2026

On July 1, Australian Sailing sent out communications to all Clubs, Classes and Centres regarding upcoming changes to the functionality of transaction fees within revSPORT. This was in response to national changes surrounding transaction fees being made by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA).

This article aims to answer any questions you may have regarding this process, assist in ensuring you understand the upcoming changes and helping your club make the right decisions for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are these changes being implemented?

The RBA has deemed "that it is in the public interest to remove surcharging for all designated card networks (eftpos, Mastercard and Visa) from 1 October 2026" (Reserve Bank of Australia, 2026).

This is not a decision that has originated from within Australian Sailing or revSPORT, we are simply complying with new government regulations.

An additional benefit is that "The RBA’s new transparency measures will make it easier for businesses to check that they are not paying more than they need and to shop around for better deals" (Reserve Bank of Australia, 2026).

When are these changes being implemented?

The RBA is removing all payment surcharges from 1 October 2026.

To allow Clubs additional time to adjust to the new model, Australian Sailing have asked revSPORT to implement these changes within ALL PORTALS on 1 September 2026.

Australian Sailing encourages your club to make these changes prior to 1 September 2026, however if you don't apply the changes yourself, it will automatically occur on 1 September 2026.

Will this change impact my Club?

  • If your Club currenlty operates under the 'on-charge' transaction fees, these changes WILL impact you.
  • If your Club currently operates under the 'absorb' transaction fee model, these changes WILL NOT impact you.

If you're unsure what model your Club operates under, log into your revSPORT Club portal and click FINANCE SETTINGSPAYMENT METHODS, then scroll down to Pin Payments.

The options you have available under the Pin Payments section will inform you whether you will be impacted.

How do I apply these changes in our portal?

If your Club already operates under the 'absorb' transaction fee model, then you don't need to make any changes.

Once your Club switches to the 'absorb' transaction fee model, you will lose the ability to switch back to the 'on-charge' transaction fee model. If you don't make this change prior to 1 September 2026, it will be done automatically

To make these changes:

  1. Log into your revSPORT Club portal
  2. Click FINANCE SETTINGSPAYMENT METHODS
  3. Scroll down to Pin Payments
  4. Toggle off On-charge Pin Payments fee
  5. Toggle off On-charge revolutioniseSPORT service fee
  6. Click Save Settings

How should we adapt our pricing?

Currently, any online payment received by a club that is operating under the 'on-charge' model charges the consumer an additional fee

i.e. If a consumer renews their membership for a cost of $45 online, they will incur an additional $1.60 + $0.90 fee and pay $47.50 in total.

An identical consumer who pays by cash, EFTPOS or direct bank transfer will only be charged $45 in total.

"Of the 16 per cent of Australian businesses that surcharge, it will be up to them to choose whether to include payment costs in their sticker prices when surcharging ends, just as they do with all their other costs" (Reserve Bank of Australia, 2026).

As stated above, the RBA recommends each individual business to make your own decision whether to include payment costs in your sticker prices.

i.e. A Club charging $45 may wish to increase their membership fee to $47.50.

An identical Club also charging $45 may wish to continue charging $45 and concede the payment cost as a business expense

What if some of our consumers pay via Cash/EFTPOS vs Pin Payment?

As mentioned previously, the RBA stated "Of the 16 per cent of Australian businesses that surcharge, it will be up to them to choose whether to include payment costs in their sticker prices when surcharging ends, just as they do with all their other costs" (Reserve Bank of Australia, 2026).

It is up to you as a Club to decide whether you will charge all consumers the same price regardless of payment method.

"Businesses will continue to be able to offer discounts if they choose, including to consumers that pay by cash" (Reserve Bank of Australia, 2026).

Under the guidance of the RBA, your Club can decide to charge different consumers different prices for the same product or service. This would be executed by:

  • Creating a payment class for Pin Payment consumers and increasing the price accordingly
  • Creating a separate payment class for Cash/EFTPOS consumers and leaving the price as is
Clubs are solely responsible for making this decision.

Should my Club charge different prices for different consumers?

"Businesses will continue to be able to offer discounts if they choose, including to consumers that pay by cash" (Reserve Bank of Australia, 2026).

Under the guidance of the RBA, your Club can decide to charge different consumers different prices for the same product or service.

Clubs are solely responsible for making this decision.

How will refunds work?

Currently, clubs operating under the 'on-charge' transaction fee model have the ability to issue refunds with or without the transaction fee included.

As transaction fees will no longer exist from 1 October 2026 under the RBA's reforms, this will no longer be an issue.

i.e. If a consumer paid $45 and requires a refund, they will be refunded $45.

If a consumer paid $47.50 and requires a refund, they will be refunded $47.50
