Call for Expressions of Interest: Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Artist - Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan Artwork

Published Thu 10 Sep 2026

Australian Sailing is inviting local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists to submit a brief to create original artwork for our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and associated organisational collateral.

About This Opportunity

As part of our commitment to reconciliation, Australian Sailing is developing our first Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), a foundational step in our journey to build stronger relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and organisations.

A central part of this document, and of how we represent our commitment to reconciliation across the organisation, is the development of an original artwork created by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander artist. We are seeking a local artist or artists to design a piece that will visually anchor our RAP and be adapted for use across a range of organisational materials.

We recognise the importance of ensuring this work is culturally led, fairly compensated, and grounded in genuine relationship, not simply a design brief to be filled. We welcome artists to bring their own story, Country, and perspective to this project.

 What We're Looking For

We are seeking Expressions of Interest from local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander artists to design original artwork that:

  • Reflects the artist's own connection to Country, culture and community

  • Can serve as the primary visual for our Reflect RAP document

  • Is adaptable for use across a range of collateral, which may include website and digital platforms, internal and external signage, presentations and letterhead, merchandise, clothing and event materials and social media assets

Who Can Apply

This opportunity is open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander artists individually or collectively who have a demonstrated practice in visual art, illustration or design (professional, emerging or community-based artists all welcome). We particularly encourage emerging and early-career artists to apply.

This includes fair payment for creative work, clear communication throughout the process, proper acknowledgment of the artist and their story wherever the artwork is used, and flexibility in how artists choose to engage with us throughout the brief.

We look forward to hearing from you and to the opportunity to have local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices and stories represented at the heart of our reconciliation journey.
