Belmont 16s Sailing Club is seeking an experienced, capable, and community-minded Sailing Manager to lead the Club’s Sailing Department.

Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Sailing Committee, the Sailing Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and performance of the department. This hands-on role oversees sailing programs, employees, instructors, coaches, volunteers, race management, safety, compliance, administration, equipment, and stakeholder engagement.

The successful candidate will be an organised and confident leader who can balance the operational requirements of a busy sailing program with the needs of members, parents, junior sailors, volunteers, employees and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate race days, regattas, special events, presentations, and the annual sailing season program.
• Oversee the Tackers Learn to Sail Program and junior coaching programs.
• Lead, support, and manage Sailing Department employees, instructors, and coaches.
• Perform Race Officer duties during the sailing season, including making decisions regarding safe racing conditions.
• Oversee sailing registrations, results, point scores, boat storage arrangements, and compliance records.
• Maintain effective communication with members, parents, volunteers, class associations, Australian Sailing, and other stakeholders.
• Manage departmental risk, incident reporting, Work Health and Safety requirements and safe operating practices.
• Coordinate the maintenance and operational readiness of Club boats, rescue vessels, sailing equipment, and boatsheds.
• Prepare reports and support the activities of the Sailing Committee.
• Drive continuous improvement across the Club’s sailing operations and programs.

Conditions

This is a permanent full-time position. The role requires regular availability to work Saturdays during the sailing season, as well as occasional Sundays when required. Flexibility to work evenings and public holidays may also be required in line with the sailing calendar and operational needs of the Club. Reasonable additional hours may be necessary during regattas, special events and peak sailing periods.

• Experience coordinating sporting programs, events, or community-based activities.
• The confidence to make timely operational and safety-related decisions.
• A sound understanding of risk management, incident reporting, and safe operating practices.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records and communications.
• The ability to work collaboratively with employees, volunteers, parents, members, officials, and committees.
• A professional, proactive and accountable approach.
• Experience in sports administration, with sailing knowledge highly regarded.

Essential requirements

Applicants must hold, or be willing to obtain:

• A current First Aid Certificate.
• A current Working with Children Check.
• A current Power Boat Licence and/or demonstrated powerboat handling experience.

Australian Sailing instructor, coaching and Race Officer qualifications are desirable.
