Published Mon 09 Mar 2020

Australian Sailing, on behalf of members of the sailing community, expresses our sincere condolences to the family of a sailor lost after an incident during the Kingfisher Interclub Night Series on Moreton Bay on Saturday.

During the incident two sailors were knocked overboard from a yacht, with one reported to be unconscious. The unconscious male was located a short time later and brought to shore, where he was later declared deceased.

Australian Sailing President Daniel Belcher was saddened to hear of the incident, saying, “On behalf of the entire sailing community, we send our deepest of sympathies to the family of the sailor we lost.

“It would have been a distressing situation for all involved in the race at Wynnum Manly Sailing Club. I am sure the entire community will rally together to support them at this time. We also express our gratitude for the work of emergency services personnel who were quickly on the scene and rendered assistance”, Daniel added.

The matter is currently under investigation by local authorities.
