Australian Sailing has welcomed the news that the Hon. Anika Wells has been reappointed as the Federal Minister for Sport and congratulates her on the addition of the Communications portfolio in the new Albanese Government.

Minister Wells has served as the Federal Minister of Sport since the 2022 Federal Election and this announcement ensures continuity in the space at this crucial time.

“Australian Sailing is delighted that Minister Wells will be continuing as the Federal Minister for Sport,” commented Australian Sailing President, Shevaun Bruland.

“We have enjoyed a strong working relationship over the past three years and look forward to continuing that as we look to grow our sport from the grass roots to the elite.

“We are well within the 10-year Green and Gold runway into the Brisbane 2032 Olympics where we will look to integrate our own 10-year Strategy, SAILING 2032, to leverage the interest in the Games into tangible benefits in participation, infrastructure and club membership.”

Prime Minister Albanese said that Wells was an appropriate appointment given the impending Brisbane Olympics.

“Anika has played a really important role in getting that together, so that will be an important part of her remit.”
