Instructor Assessment Appeals Procedure
Australian Sailing is committed to ensuring all Instructor assessments are conducted fairly, consistently, and transparently. If you believe your assessment outcome does not accurately reflect your performance, you may lodge an appeal in accordance with the procedure outlined below.
Appeal Process

1) Discuss with your Senior Instructor
If an assessed Instructor would like to appeal their assessment results, the candidate must first approach and discuss the assessment results with their Senior Instructor.
The Senior Instructor is required to keep a record of the feedback and action plans that have been provided to the participant on the Instructor Report Form and they should send a copy to training@sailing.org.au.

2) Lodge Assessment Appeals Form
2. If the matter is unresolved at this point, the candidate will be able to lodge a formal appeal with Australian Sailing within 7 days via the Assessment Appeals Form.
Once you have completed your section of the form, please send the form to training@sailing.org.au.

3) Australian Sailing perform our review
Australian Sailing will review the report form provided by the Senior Instructor and the evidence presented by the appellant.
Evidence and outcomes of other candidates may also be reviewed to gain an overview of the fairness of the assessment process utilised and evidence presented.

4) Further discussion and final judgement
Australian Sailing may discuss the appeal with the Senior Instructor and the appellant for their views of the disputed results.
Australian Sailing will record their findings on the Assessment Appeal Form.

Outcome
If Australian Sailing find that a case for review is:
- PROVEN
- Australian Sailing will appoint a suitably qualified different Senior Instructor to conduct another assessment and notify the candidate in writing.
- When the re-assessment has been conducted, the Senior Instructor will discuss their report with Australian Sailing. The outcome of the re-assessment is to be noted on the Assessment Appeal Form. The candidate will be advised within five working days of receipt of the decision, in writing. All related documentation will be filed in the Appellants Personal file.
- NOT PROVEN
- Australian Sailing will advise the candidate of this decision in writing within five working days of the assessment appeal being lodged. All related documentation will be filed in the Appellants Personal file.
Re-appeal
An appellant may wish to re-appeal if they are not satisfied with the outcome of their original appeal. They must make this request in writing to Australian Sailing for final review of the assessment. Australian Sailing will present the case for and against re-assessment. The apellant has the right to have an independent person or panel represent them if they wish.
The decision of Australian Sailing will be final. This decision and the reasons for the decision will be communicated in writing to the appelent within five working days of receiving the re-appeal.
