49er FX Experience Camp

Purpose

Australian Sailing’s 49erFX Experience Camp is designed to inspire, guide, and connect young sailors from across Australia who are interested in Olympic sailing and the 49erFX class.

The camp provides an opportunity to experience a high-performance training environment, gain an understanding of what an FX campaign involves, and develop skills that can be applied within sailors’ current programs.

The camp also aims to provide a clear pathway into the 49erFX class by creating ongoing opportunities for sailors to continue their development with their local class coaches, state programs, and future Australian Sailing pathway initiatives.

There is no entry cost to attend the camp. Sailors will be responsible for their own travel, accommodation, meals and any other associated costs. Sailors under 18 must have the support of a parent or guardian who is present for the duration of the camp.

Objectives

  • Experience a high-performing 49erFX training environment; including on-water sessions, briefings and debriefs, data and video capture, and physical preparation sessions;
  • Learn about the technical, tactical, and physical demands of a 49erFX campaign;
  • Develop practical skills and training values that can be applied immediately within a current sailing program;
  • Connect with other sailors and build future training partnerships and friendships.
