Course Overview
The Measurer- IRC/ORC Hull and Sails Seminar is aimed at training Australian Sailing members in the basics to conduct measurement and certification of the hull and sails of a yacht for the purpose of the endorsement for IRC and ORCi Rating Certificates. Measurers play an important role within sailing ensuring equipment compliance and act as a source of technical knowledge.
To become accredited as an Australian Sailing Measurer - Hull and Sails for IRC and ORC endorsed rating certificates you are required to:
- Be a member of an Australian Sailing affiliated club.
- Attend an Australian Sailing Measurer -IRC/ORC Hulls and Sails measuring Seminar.
- Provide a log showing you have assisted as a Measurer in the last two years.
- Attain a Letter of Endorsement from a currently accredited measurer

Registration at the top of this page allows you to enrol in an available Accreditation Seminar.
Attendees are asked to bring to the seminar:
- Their online edition of the 2025-2028 Racing Rules of Sailing.
- The Online revision of the IRC Rule for the current year (IRC 2026 Rule Definitions)
- The Online revision of the ORC Rules for the current year (IMS 2025 rules)
- The Online revision of the ORC Rating Systems for the current year (ORC Rating Systems 2025)
- Notepad and pen (or lap top/notebook).
- Optional extras include 30m fibreglass tape measure, plumb bob, metre wooden ruller.
Course Prerequisites
There are no pre-requisites for participation in this seminar. However, evidence of past experience assisting a currently accredited IRC/ORC measurer is desirable.

Who should do this course?
People who have a keen interest in Sailing and want to participate in another facet of the sport. Those who may be interested in becoming a Measurer of hull and sails – for IRC and ORC and want to contribute to the sport, volunteers at yacht clubs and sailors who no longer actively participate in the sport.
Course Outcome
Participants will become accredited as a Measurer – IRC/ORC Hull and Sails; a person qualified to carry out measurement and certification of the hull and sails of a yacht for the purpose of Endorsed rating certificates.
