Australian Sailing is pleased to engage AMAZE to deliver an online training session to instructors and Sailability volunteers. This will enable volunteers and instructors/club personnel who are engaging with autistic people to better understand and support their needs whilst sailing.

AMAZE is the peak body in Victoria for people with autism, their families and supporters and offers support to families with children diagnosed with autism, training for professionals working with clients with on the spectrum and support to adults living with autism.  AMAZE trainer Kerry Hill and  Willow Metcalf (AMAZE's autistic lived experience consultant) will deliver the online session and answer any questions you may have.

After this training you will:

  • Know what autism spectrum disorder is and how it effects a person’s behaviour
  • Understand how sensory processing differences impact on a person and how they engage with the environment
  • Recognise the thinking styles that autistic people have and where support may be required
  • Identify and apply basic support strategies to assist autistic people
