Becoming a DSC

How to become a Discover Sailing Centre

Types of Centres:

  • Club affiliated with Australian Sailing.
  • Community Not for Profit group e.g. Scouts, Girl Guides, Schools, Sailability etc.
  • Commercial Organisation

To apply for accreditation, contact your state or territory General Manager.

The Accreditation Process

The accreditation steps are:

  1. An initial review of your site, vessels and equipment (Centre Review).
  2. Reviewing and signing the Discover Sailing Centre Agreement.
  3. Paying the annual Discover Sailing Centre accreditation fee

The Centre Review

An Australian Sailing staff member will do an initial review to assess your policies, procedures, facilities, and equipment to ensure they meet the requirements outlined in the DSC Operating Standards and Guidelines.

What will be reviewed is explained in the Discover Sailing Centre Operating Standards & Guidelines, and Self Review Form. Click here to view these documents.

This list looks like a lot of items, but only the items relevant to the programs your centre wants to deliver need to be reviewed.

Australian Sailing can provide templates for the essential documentation to help you get started.

Australian Sailing staff use a digital version of the review form. After the site visit, you will be emailed a copy of the review with any items that need to be completed before the accreditation can be completed (e.g. safety equipment needs to be updated).

Operating Standards and Guidelines

Discover Sailing Centres are required to operate in accordance with the Australian Sailing Operating Standards and Guidelines and the latest version should always be referenced. The Operating Standards and Guidelines will be used during the Annual Review of your Centre, must be adhered to at all times to maintain accreditation as a Discover Sailing Centre.
