The third annual Winterbash at Woody Point kicks off on Saturday 28th July.

The regatta is split into two separate formats; one day of three races of a fixed triangular course over 6km with all classes sailing the same course; plenty of reaching for all boats. The other day will be taken up with the Marathon; a quick run across to the Shorncliffe Jetty, up north to the Redcliffe light and into Deception Bay for the faster classes (if the wind allows) before heading back home. The course is set for all classes to a target duration of 4-4½ hours. It is a superb course and if the wind is right, is fast and highly enjoyable.

The regatta is open to all classes including trailer sailers who enjoyed success in WinterBash.

The junior division will race closer inshore along the Clontarf beach front and will be easily followed by parents and friends from Pelican Park. For their “mini” Marathon they will sail along the waterfront and alongside the Ted Smout Bridge (where there are plenty of vantage points) towards Sandgate before returning to the finish at Woody Point.

As usual the Humpybong facilities will be open from mid Friday. There is plenty of space for the tent or van but be sure to let us know when you register that you are camping. For those who are travelling and prefer different levels of accommodation, see the HYC web site for local accommodation options – 2 Star to 4 Star.

There will be plenty of food and refreshments available during the regatta with a good assortment of food available throughout the days and on the Saturday night. If you arrive early and want a Friday special or you wish to hang around Woody Point for Sunday dinner, the new look Belvedere is 200m away on the Point.
