Spirit of Sailing Award
“The Spirit of Sailing Award recognises a youth sailor who best demonstrates the values of S.A.I.L.I.N.G. not just how they race, but how they treat others, respond to challenges, and contribute to the sailing community.”
S – Sportsmanship
Treats competitors, officials, volunteers, family and friends with respect at all times.
A – Attitude
Brings a positive mindset and gives their best, even when things don’t go to plan.
I – Integrity
Races fairly, follows the rules, and takes responsibility for mistakes.
L – Learning
Is curious, open to feedback and looks to improve.
I – Inclusion
Welcomes others, supports teammates, and helps people to feel they belong.
N – Never Give Up
Shows resilience and keeps trying especially through challenges.
G – Gratitude
Thanks volunteers, coaches, race officials and family for their support.
Nomination Criteria:
- Up to two awards will be presented at each Zhik Youth Sail event.
- The nominee must be a registered participant of a Zhik Youth Sail event who displays one or more of the S.A.I.L.I.N.G values.
- The nominator may be a fellow participant, parent, official, coach, volunteer or spectator who witnesses a display of the S.A.I.L.I.N.G values.
- Nominations must be received via the online Spirit of S.A.I.L.I.N.G Nomination Form.
- Nominations will be judged against the S.A.I.L.I.N.G values and the degree to which they have been displayed in comparison to the other nominations received.
- The winner/s will be decided by the event Organising Authority and Australian Sailing.
- The Spirit of S.A.I.L.I.N.G Award may be presented at any time throughout a Zhik Youth Sail event.
