Themed Months Spotlight Australian Sailing’s Community Focus

Published Wed 01 Mar 2023

Throughout 2023 Australian Sailing is going to be spotlighting specific themes that the sailing community have told us are important to them.

Every second month we will focus on a specific theme that aligns with the Strategic Foundations from our 10-year Strategic Plan “SAILING 2032” that we are delivering in partnership with clubs to get more people on the water, in more ways, more often.

The themed months will feature content highlighting the best of the sailing community, as well as resources to assist clubs.

The full list of themed months are as follows:

  • March – Diversity and Inclusion
  • May – Volunteers
  • July – Participation
  • September – Environmental Sustainability
  • November – Discover Sailing
  • January 2024 - Safety

Throughout the month of March Australian Sailing will showcase great stories from across the nation and will highlight resources to continue building on our strengths in the areas of Diversity and Inclusion.

Australian Sailing is proud to highlight our recent partnership with Pride in Sport, with the organisation becoming one of our Supported Organisations for 2023. By becoming a member of the Pride in Sport program we are committing to further develop and enhance the inclusion of LGBTQ people within our sailing community. Pride in Sport will work with Australian Sailing on how to achieve best practice and develop resources in this space.

Wednesday 8 March is International Women’s Day, and this year’s theme is ‘Embrace Equity’. Australian Sailing is working toward achieving gender equity within the sailing community, with a goal of 50% female participation by 2032. To mark the occasion Australian Sailing will be showcasing the wonderful people contributing to this space and ask clubs to reflect on what they currently are doing to encourage women of all ages to get involved in the sport of sailing. There are plenty of amazing resources to help support clubs in this space, all available on the SheSails website

Australian Sailing is committed to empowering our clubs to offer an inclusive environment to significantly grow the number and diversity of people who enjoy sailing, either as participants, competitors, or as part of the broader sailing community. We look forward to partnering with our community to improve access to sailing, so that everyone can safely enjoy one of Australia’s most iconic pursuits.
