Australian Sailing on the lookout for the next generation of foiling champions

Published Mon 23 Dec 2019

From 2024, the Olympic sailing program will include the Mixed Kite event (IKA Formula Kite) and the iQFoil as the equipment for the Men’s and Women’s Windsurfer events.

As a result, Australian Sailing wants to discover our next generation of potential youth and Olympic champions and coaches for these events.

To begin the process, we are calling for windsurfers, kite foil racers and other sailors and coaches interested in kite foil racing and foiling windsurfing to register their details here.

“This is an exciting time for our sport, as we will be showcasing some of the most thrilling racing on the biggest platform in world sport and we want Australians at the front of that fleet,” said Australian Sailing CEO Ben Houston.

The changes provide exciting new opportunities for windsurfers and kite boarders as well as other youth sailors interesting in leveraging existing sailing skills in these new events.

“We need to engage the broader sailing community, including our clubs and the windsurfing and kite communities, to help us support the existing and emerging talent and grow these disciplines at the grass roots level as quickly as we can,” Houston continued.

“That process starts now, and if anyone is interested in receiving information as it comes to hand then I encourage you to register your details with us today.”

By registering your details, we will be able to share information and opportunities and address questions in relation to these events.
