Express of Interest - 2023 "NEXTLEVEL" Coach Scholarship

Australian Sailing Performance Pathways is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from coaches for the second year intake of the NEXTLEVEL coach development scholarship. The purpose of this initiative is to identify and support the development of future HP development and HP coaches, aligned to AS strategic focuses including:

  • Increasing the number of female coaches within performance teams for diversity of thinking and engagement
  • Building a stronger ‘foil’ pathway #NEXTLEVEL and skills 
  • Develop stronger club environments to transition rounded sailors upward
  • Support former athletes who are transitioning to coaching with more structure, intent, and purpose.

This initiative is targeted at club coaches, athletes transitioning into coaching roles and female coaches, who are interested in coaching and developing their skills toward or within the Performance Pathway.

What it looks like in practice for successful candidates?

  • Foundation thinking with a development lead and the creation of a coach development plan
  • Mentorship and support from performance pathways leadership and coaches
  • Experiences tailored to development plans in the field (both on and off the water)
  • Communication and connection to performance pathway events and initiatives
  • Expenses coverage based on a successful development plan

The application process requires prospective recipients to submit an expression of interest. AS will interview a shortlist of suitable candidates to test:

  • Suitability
  • Availability
  • Motivations
  • Understanding of and alignment to AS strategic direction
  • HP development understanding and philosophy

Application Process

Please fill out the online form noting areas of coaching experience, along with a copy of the following:

  • Current resume (max. two pages)
  • A copy of ‘Working with Children Check’
  • A copy of ‘Power Boat’ license
  • Australian Sailing Number
  • AS Sailing Coach Qualification including First Aid, AS Safety Power Boat Certificate 
  • Copy of any Coaching Qualifications (AS Sailing Coaching quals can be obtained from Australian Sailing and are required for the scholarship)

AS is offering five (5) NEXTLEVEL coaches scholarships to Pathway and Olympic classes. The deadline for applications will be 20 April 2023 at 1800 hrs. Post interviews, the decision on all successful applicants will be announced by the end of April. Post that we will kick off with mentor allocation and plans.

If successful, all NEXTLEVEL Coaches will be required to attend a face to face workshop in Brisbane from the 8 - 10 May 2023 and the Advance Workshop from the 22 - 24 May in Adelaide. More information to follow.
