Course Overview

The Regional Judge course is aimed at educating Australian Sailing members in the principles to Chair a Protest Committee and deliver fair and consistent protest procedure. Regional Judges play an important role in sailing by enabling better quality decision to be made on a consistent basis at club racing and local regattas.

To become accredited as an Australian Sailing Regional Judge you are required to:

  • Be a member of an Australian Sailing affiliated club.
  • Attend an Australian Sailing Regional Judge Seminar.
  • Pass the Regional Judge Exam with a 75% score or more.
  • Complete the Judge Practical Assessment with a Regional pass.

If you wish to accredit via submitting prior evidence that meets the above requirements please complete the Regional Judge Accreditation Application Form. When completing the form please upload any documents in PDF format.

Course Prerequisites

There are no formal pre-requisites for participation in this course. However, the skill, knowledge and judgement requisites of the lower judge qualifications are expected of an seminar attendee. The Australian Sailing Judge Seminar is just one aspect of becoming a Regional Judge.

The cost of the seminar is $75.00.

Who should do this course?

The Regional Judge seminar is aimed at training people who wish to Chair Protest Committees for Club and local regatta racing, and may aspire to become senior Judge. Those who may be interested in becoming a Regional Judge include parents who may have experience with sailing and want to contribute to the sport, volunteers at yacht clubs and sailors who no longer actively participate in the sport.

Course Outcome

Participants will become accredited as a Regional Judge; a person capable of Chairing a Protest Committee for Club and local regatta racing, or acting as a Protest Committee Member for Championship racing.
