How to get Accredited

Getting started is simple — much of the learning is online and completely free.

Most accreditations follow this process:

  1. Choose your discipline-specific qualification and review the accreditation requirements
  2. Complete the required online e-learning for that qualification
  3. Register for and then attend the required face-to-face training course

Use the steps below to follow the process of becoming an Accredited Australian Sailing Instructor or Coach:

Step 1: Check the requirements for your Qualification

Visit our Qualification Requirements page to select your qualification and review the specific requirements needed for your accreditation.

Requirements can consist of:
   accreditation or age requirements
   e-learning
  practical components

 

Step 2: Ensure you apply for RPL or update your Certificates (if necessary)

If your selected accreditation requires you to obtain qualifications or certificates that you already possess or have obtained overseas, you must:

 

Step 3: Complete your e-learning

Once you have reviewed your Qualification Requirements, you must ensure that you complete all of your required e-learning Courses. 

 

Step 4: Complete your Face-to-face Training Course

Once you have completed all of your required e-learning Courses, you can now look at booking your required Face-to-face Training Course.

Step 5: Staying compliant once accredited

Holding an Australian Sailing accreditation qualifies you as an Instructor or Coach, but you must also stay compliant with state/territory laws and the policies of the organisation you deliver programs for.

To remain current, ensure the following certifications are valid:

  • Working with Children Check (WWCC) - or equivalent, based on your state or territory
  • Maritime Licence - if required for your qualification or location
  • Marine Radio Certificate - if applicable
  • First Aid Certificate - HLTAID011 (Provide First Aid) or higher

These requirements help ensure all accredited Instructors and Coaches meet the necessary legal and safety standards when delivering programs.

 

Step 6: Adding another accrediation?

Once you’ve completed a full accreditation, including the two-day face-to-face course, gaining additional accreditations is faster and easier.

Many core e-learning modules are shared across qualifications, you’ll usually only need to:

  • Complete the discipline-specific e-learning, and
  • Attend a 1-day face-to-face course for that qualification

No need to repeat the full program, making it simpler to expand your qualifications across multiple disciplines.
