Sail Our Way Participation Grant Program – Round 2 of the Successful Initiative Now Open

Published Thu 05 Mar 2026

Following a highly successful first round, the Sail Our Way Participation Grant Program is back — with Round 2 now open and ready to support even more impactful initiatives across the country.

An initiative of Australian Sailing, proudly funded through a successful grant from the Department of Health and Aged Care, Sail Our Way is focused on breaking down barriers that women and girls continue to face in sport.

Round 1 delivered outstanding results, with clubs and class associations hosting innovative and engaging programs. Highlights included the Wellness Women on Water event in Albury, a Women’s Wing foiling Camp in NSW, and a series of highly successful Women’s Come and Try Days that introduced many new participants to sailing in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Now, Round 2 presents a fresh opportunity. We are looking for more amazing projects and initiatives that will inspire, engage and support women and girls to get involved in sailing — whether as participants, leaders, coaches or officials.

Funding Available

Eligible affiliated clubs and class associations can apply for up to $1,500 (ex GST) to deliver participation initiatives that:

  • Increase participation of women and girls in sailing
  • Boost representation in leadership, coaching and official roles
  • Foster positive club cultures that value and respect women and girls from all backgrounds

Projects must be delivered between 1 May and 31 December 2026.

Who Should Projects Support?

We strongly encourage initiatives that create meaningful opportunities for women and girls from:

  • Low socio-economic backgrounds
  • Culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Regional and remote areas
  • LGBTQ+ communities
  • People with disability
  • Girls and Youth

Your project can help remove barriers, build confidence, and strengthen community connection through sailing.

What Could Your Project Look Like?

We welcome creative and practical ideas, including:

  • A women’s SheSails Discover Sailing Day
  • Girls bring a friend Discover Sailing experience
  • A women-and-girls-only sailing course
  • Leadership or coaching development workshops
  • Mentoring programs
  • A Twilight Series incorporating a women’s helm division

Only one application per affiliated club or class association is permitted. Previous applicants are encouraged to apply again if they can demonstrate how additional funding will expand or enhance an existing initiative.

Applications close 20 April at 11:59pm

With strong momentum from Round 1, this is your opportunity to build on that success and make a lasting impact - empowering more women and girls to experience the freedom, confidence and connection that sailing offers.

Clubs and class associations are encouraged to start planning now and review the Sail Our Way Round 2 Guidelines and Frequently Asked Questions before submitting their application.
