Over 55 Clubs Awarded Sail Our Way Grants to Boost Women’s Participation in Sailing

Published Fri 24 Oct 2025

Australian Sailing, in partnership with the Department of Health and Aged Care, is proud to announce that 55 sailing clubs and class associations across Australia have been successful in receiving a Sail Our Way grant to help increase women’s participation in sailing.

From a Girls-Only Discover Sailing Day at Hunters Hill Sailing Clubto women’s coaching and leadership clinics, the successful projects highlight the innovation and commitment of clubs across the country to create welcoming and inclusive environments for women and girls to thrive.

Australian Sailing CEO Malcolm Page said; ‘The response to the program was outstanding, reflecting the passion across the sailing community to make the sport more inclusive and representative.

“It’s magnificent to see so many clubs apply with such innovative and meaningful projects,” said Page.

“These initiatives will play a vital role in helping more women and girls not only get involved in sailing, but also take on leadership, coaching and mentoring roles within our sport. Together, we’re moving closer to achieving our goal of 50% gender equity by 2032.”

The Sail Our Way Participation Grant Program, funded through the Department of Health and Aged Care’s Play Our Way initiative, supports sailing clubs and class associations to deliver projects that create safe, inclusive, and empowering spaces for women and girls.

The funded initiatives particularly aim to support women and girls from:

  • Low socio-economic backgrounds

  • Culturally and linguistically diverse communities

  • Regional and remote areas

  • LGBTQ+ communities

  • People with disability

A second round of Sail Our Way grants will open in 2026, providing another opportunity for clubs that were unsuccessful in this round or those clubs/ class associations who wish to deliver new programs next year.
