National Reconciliation Week statement

Published Tue 28 May 2024

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2024, ‘Now More Than Ever’, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will, and must, continue.

Australian Sailing acknowledges Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past and present.

Along with the work Australian Sailing will do to develop a Reconciliation Action Plan, we have also formed a Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Advisory Group guiding the development of Australian Sailing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy which will be released later this year.

Australian Sailing’s commitment to providing safe, welcoming, and inclusive sailing environments aims to enhance the culture and quality of the experience for those participating, especially prioritising equity and choice to ensure all Australians can access sailing; including women, young people, Indigenous populations, diverse sexes and sexualities, individuals with disabilities, and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
