Get to know your e-sailing State Champions – QLD & NSW

Published Tue 26 May 2020

In State of Origin style Australian Sailing caught up with e-sailing State Champions from New South Wales and Queensland ahead of the upcoming Zhik Australian eSailing National Challenge.

JACK FERGUSON – NSW e-SAILING STATE WINNER (pictured above)

-How did you get in to Virtual Sailing? At the 2018 420 World Championships in Newport RI, a few competitors started playing while postponed on shore

-What type of boat do you normally sail? I just transitioned from 420 to 49er, also Waszp and occasionally Laser Radial

-What is your favourite boat to race on Virtual Regatta and why? J70 as it’s quite tactical

-How does it feel to be the winner of your state? Happy I was able to compete in every race without WIFI issues

-How do you feel going up against the other state winners on Thursday? Keen for it. I know a few of the other competitors and can't wait to race them.

QUENTIN PALMER – QLD e-SAILING STATE WINNER (pictured above):

-How does it feel to be the winner of your state?  Lucky.  The racing was very close and I certainly got my share of it.

-How do you feel going up against the other state winners on Thursday? I think all the pressure is on Jack Ferguson and his flying spinnaker starts!

-Are you going to be doing any training/preparation, practicing against your kids? Probably just need to practice those flying spinnaker starts from the buoy end. That's the winning move I think.

State vs State, Mate vs Mate... be sure to tune in to the Zhik Australian eSailing National Challenge Final that will be live streamed to the Australian Sailing Facebook page at 7pm AEST this Thursday 28 May to cheer your State home!
