Australian Sailing Celebrates Pride Month
Australian Sailing will celebrate Pride Month again in 2025, reaffirming its commitment to making sailing a welcoming and inclusive sport for all Australians, no matter their background or identity.
As part of our long-term vision outlined in the Sailing 2032 Strategic Plan, Australian Sailing reaffirms our wholesale commitment to increasing access to sailing, championing diversity and creating inclusive and welcoming environments for everyone.
This year marks a significant milestone with Australian Sailing launching our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy in December 2024, which unveiled a vision for an inclusive future within the sport. The DEI Strategy was developed in collaboration with a DEI Advisory Group, formed in 2023 from a group of passionate and experienced individuals from the broader sailing community, with a focus on strengthening diversity, equity and inclusion in all forms across all communities throughout Australia.
Australian Sailing was recognised for our work as a Pride in Sport member, when we were announced as one of the twelve sports to achieve Bronze Tier status at the 2025 Australian Pride in Sport Awards and notably ranked as the highest scoring sport in its category.
In celebration of Pride Month this June, Australian Sailing and the Australian Sailing Team will again feature the vibrant colours of the Progress Pride flag within their logos, proudly standing in solidarity with LGBTQ communities.
Acting CEO, Ben Callard, remarked that "Pride Month is a reminder of the responsibility we have to build an inclusive and equitable future for sailing. Through our DEI Strategy and the dedication of our community, we are charting a course where all Australians feel they belong in our sport."
Through these initiatives, Australian Sailing is working to ensure that the sport continues to evolve into a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable space for everyone—on and off the water.
