Course Overview

The State Judges Seminar is aimed at educating Australian Sailing members in advanced principles to Chair a championship jury and handle cases.

State Judges play an important role in sailing by enabling better quality decision to be made at championship events where the results of a hearing may have significant consequences for the competitors(s) involved.

To become accredited as an Australian Sailing State Judge you are required to:

  • Be a member of an Australian Sailing affiliated club.
  • Attend an Australian Sailing State Judge Seminar.
  • Pass the State Judge Exam with a State level score or more.
  • Provide a log showing you have served as a member of a Protest Committee or Jury in at least four fleet racing events.
  • Have passed the State Judge Performance Assessment in the past four years.

If you wish to accredit via submitting prior evidence that meets the above requirements please complete the State Judge Accreditation Application Form. When completing the form please upload any Word, Excel or other documents in PDF format.

Registration at the top of this page allow you to enrol in an available Accreditation Seminar.

The cost of the seminar is $150.00 and includes all course materials and an Australian Sailing Officials long sleeved polo shirt (redeemable upon accreditation).

Course Prerequisites

There are no pre-requisites for participation in this seminar. However, attendance at the Australian Sailing Judge Seminar is just one aspect of becoming a State or National Judge.

Who should do this course?

The State Judge seminar is aimed at training people who wish to be part of championship jury and may aspire to become senior Judge. Those who may be interested in becoming a State Judge include parents who may have experience with sailing and want to contribute to the sport, volunteers at yacht clubs and sailors who no longer actively participate in the sport.

Course Outcome

Participants will become accredited as a State Judge; a person capable of being a Protest Committee Chair and handling cases, who’s knowledge encompasses the entirety of Racing Rules of Sailing.
