Ultimately it is the competitor’s responsibility to check that their boat’s measurements and safety equipment meet the rules. But it is a responsibility the organising authority shares. By having a technical committee doing checks in a systematic way, the club will have played their part in bringing integrity to their event and ensuring competitor satisfaction.
By using a technical committee to perform equipment inspection and measurements under RRS 92, the club and competitors will be comfortable that the outcome of the regatta was fair. These inspections done in a systematic way will avoided the bar talk and tension that can sometimes be heard at a major regatta held under ORC, IRC or CBH ratings.
