Steering the Course in Australia with SheSails Leadership Conference

Australian Sailing is officially launching its inaugural National SheSails Leadership Conference, to coincide with World Sailing’s first ever women’s sailing celebration, Steering the Course

Steering the Course is an international festival that aims bring together women across all generations in a celebration of the sport of sailing. Created to provide opportunities for women across the world to get into sailing, as well as encourage pathways and bring together sailing communities.  

The SheSails Leadership Conference webinar event set for 6pm (AEDT) Wednesday 6th October is designed to champion female involvement in sailing and empower them to reach their full potential.  This special event will feature guest speakers that will provide insights and explore the topic of Leadership.  

Facilitated by: Sue Cormack, Consultant and past facilitator of Sport Australia’s Women Leaders in Sport workshops.

6:00 – 6:10pm – Welcome and introductions from Australian Sailing & World Sailing
6:10 – 6:40pm: SheSails Around the grounds: inspirational SheSails stories from around Australia
6:40 – 7:05pm: Sarah Styles, Director of the office for Women in Sport and Recreation will present:

  • Establishing a stronger, inclusive narrative for women - why gender diversity so important, covering a women’s journey to the top of the table and how women offer a different set of eyes and different skills as well as how to navigate it all!
  • The value of sport – it is greater than simply the ‘game’. Networks, friendships and cross-cultural communication - together with career and personal growth opportunities - all contribute to the tremendous value of sport.

7:05pm – 7:25pm: Lisa Darmanin – Dual Olympian (Rio & Tokyo) to discuss how she has seen female involvement in sailing change, how women have supported her along the journey and how she believes women can support women within sailing. 

7:25 – 7:30pm: SheSails Resources and wrap up.
